  50. Note:  These drivers can be found on diskette #8 in a file                      
  51. called DASDDRVS.  The above drivers can be unpacked with                        
  52. the following command:

  58. Once these steps are taken, reboot the machine to initiate                      
  59. the appropriate support.

  64. Following are a number of notes about usage, and                                
  65. about potential compatibility problems with the                                 
  66. microcode levels on various adapters and devices.                               
  67.                                                                                 
  68.  Adapter:  All Adaptec adapters                                                 
  69.  Note:     SCSI hard disks must be configured as SCSI target                    
  70.            ID 0 or 1 to be able to start up from that hard                      
  71.            disk.                                                                
  72.                                                                                 
  73.  Drive:    IBM 0661 - 320MB SCSI                                                
  74.  Note:     Adapter BIOS will not recognize the drive as                         
  75.            Target 0 or 1 (Drives 80, 81).  For OS/2 2.0, the                    
  76.            drive can be used as a non-startup drive.                            
  77.                                                                                 
  78.  Adapter:  Adaptec AHA-174x                                                     
  79.  Drive:    IBM WDS-3180 - 80MB SCSI, IBM WDS-3160                               
  80.            - 160MB SCSI                                                         
  81.  Note:     Adapter will not recognize these drives when                         
  82.            configured in 'STANDARD MODE' (AHA-154x                              
  83.            emulation).  Instead, the AHA-174x adapter should                    
  84.            be configured in 'ENHANCED MODE'. This mode is                       
  85.            supported by the OS/2 2.0 drivers, and the                           
  86.            problem does not occur when the adapter is                           
  87.            operating in enhanced mode.                                          
  88.                                                                                 
  89.  Adapter:  Future Domain TMC-850/860/875/885 w/BIOS revision                    
  90.            level 7.0.                                                           
  91.            Future Domain TMC-1660/1670/1680 w/BIOS revision                     
  92.            level 2.0.                                                           
  93.  System:   IBM Models 35 and 40 when the Future Domain                          
  94.            adapter is controlling the startup diskette.                         
  95.  Note:     Will produce the message, "Disk read error has                       
  96.            occurred" when you attempt to start the                              
  97.            Installation diskette.                                               
  98.            Contact Future Domain for a free BIOS upgrade.                       
  99.                                                                                 
  100. AMI SCSI Adapters                                                               
  101.                                                                                 
  102.  Symptom:                                                                       
  103.          AMI "Fast Disk" and AMI "Fast Disk II" SCSI                            
  104.          adapters are incorrectly recognized as Adaptec                         
  105.          adapters.                                                              
  106.  Problem:                                                                       
  107.          At the final restart after the installation is                         
  108.          complete, delete from the CONFIG.SYS file, any                         
  109.          line with "BASEDEV=AHA1xxx.ADD" (where "x" can                         
  110.          be any character). Ensure the line,                                    
  111.          "BASEDEV=IBMINT13.I13," appears in the CONFIG.SYS                      
  112.          file.                                                                  
  113.                                                                                 
  114.                                                                                 
  115. Problems with Always IN2000 SCSI adapter                                        
  116.                                                                                 
  117.          Internal Processing Error.                                             
  118.          Symptoms of the problem are varied, but the most                       
  119.          common is an FDISK error on the second diskette.                       
  120.  Problem:                                                                       
  121.          Bios adapter with bad bios.  Bios level of 3.06A                       
  122.          or 3.20 should be upgraded.  The current BIOS level                    
  123.          is VCN:1-02 and works with OS/2 v2.0.                                  
  124.  Resolution:                                                                    
  125.          Upgrade to current BIOS level of VCN:1-02.  Also,                      
  126.          Always IN 2000 SCSI Host Adapters may require an                       
  127.          EPROM upgrade from Always for $20 to operate with                      
  128.        V2.0. The revision level should be 2.5-2.7.                              
  129.          Always suggests installing the EPROMS and                              
  130.          re-formatting the drive - seem to be some problems                     
  131.          installing over DOS partitions.  Always can be                         
  132.          reached at 818-597-9595.                                               
  133.                                                                                 
  134.  Bernoulli Boxes                                                                
  135.                                                                                 
  136.  Notes:                                                                         
  137.         44 and 89MB drives will work if connected to any                        
  138.         other SCSI card other than Bernoulli's own card.                        
  139.         The drive will work as a large diskette and will be                     
  140.         non-bootable.                                                           
  141.                                                                                 
  142.  PROCOMM+ SCSI MCA adapters do not work                                         
  143.                                                                                 
  144.  Resolution:                                                                    
  145.          Contact PROCOMM for details on OS/2 support.                           
  146.                                                                                 
  147.  Slow SCSI support or missing icons                                             
  148.                                                                                 
  149.  Symptom:                                                                       
  150.          Slow hard drive speeds and possibly no icons                           
  151.          appearing.  Other data corruption possible.                            
  152.  Problem:                                                                       
  153.          Hard drive and adapter card settings not                               
  154.          correctly matched.                                                     
  155.  Resolution:                                                                    
  156.          Ensure that hard drive and card are matched in                         
  157.          their settings of SYNCH and ASYNCH mode.                               
  158.                                                                                 
  159.  IBM 16-bit SCSI cards(early versions)                                          
  160.                                                                                 
  161.          Early versions of the IBM 16-bit SCSI adapters                         
  162.          may experience problems and report erroneously that                    
  163.          the device is not functioning.                                         
  164.  Resolution:                                                                    
  165.          Replace SCSI card with a card with updated microcode.                  
  166.                                                                                 
  167.  Quantam Plus Hardcard                                                          
  168.                                                                                 
  169.  Symptom:                                                                       
  170.          Numerous failures under 1.3 and 2.0.                                   
  171.  Problem:                                                                       
  172.          Microcode lower than 2.6 will cause numerous                           
  173.          failures under 2.0.  Also, drive cannot be second                      
  174.          disk if installation will take place on the hard                       
  175.          card drive.                                                            
  176.  Resolution:                                                                    
  177.          Call Quantum about EPROM upgrades.                                     
  178.                                                                                 
  179. Other SCSI hints                                                                
  180. ----------------                                                                
  181.                                                                                 
  182. Some SCSI card have jumper pins which can be set to either                      
  183. Synchronous or Asynchronous mode. There have been noted                         
  184. problems such as no icons appearing or slow hard disk                           
  185. performance. This can be attributed to the SCSI card and                        
  186. hard disk not being set to the same asynch or synch                             
  187. settings. Either way, they must match. Be sure these are set                    
  188. properly.                                                                       
  189.                                                                                 
  190. The early versions of the IBM 16-bit SCSI adapters may                          
  191. experience problems and report erroneously that the device                      
  192. is not functioning.  This can be corrected by replacing the                     
  193. SCSI card with a card with updated microcode.
